A Doctor of Medicine (MD from Latin Medicinae Doctor) is a medical degree, the meaning of which varies between different jurisdictions. In countries that follow the United Statessystem, the MD denotes a first professional graduate degree (e.g., Doctor of Jurisprudence in law) or a degree awarded upon initial graduation from medical school more closely related to a master's degree with a law and medical degree (e.g. M.D. & D.O.), but widely seen as a doctorate degree in conflict with Department of Education classification of degrees.
